Sony’s application is for music and artists signed under the Columbia Records logo. And this will cover their text, artwork, audio, video recordings, live performances, and music distribution authenticated by NFTs.
The non-fungibles market has been a playground for Sony since 2021 when in partnership with AMC, NFTs were offered to fans who buy Spider-Man tickets in advance. Sony Music also released Baby Shark NFTs with Pinpong in December 2021.

NFTs, metaverse, and the entertainment industry
Today, NFTs are no longer for trading and playing games but are being introduced fully into the entertainment world in various use cases.
Eminem and Snoop Dogg are among the top global stars that have integrated NFTs into their works. Last month’s MTV Video Music Award saw the duo perform their songs in a Yuga Labs-designed metaverse.
There is now a Best Metaverse Performance award initiated by MTV to celebrate music performances done in the metaverse. And the first recipient was Blackpink showing that acceptance of NFTs and metaverse is increasing.
Apart from Sony, Netflix, Monstercat, Fox Corporation, and Universal Pictures are top entertainment firms that are delving into NFTs and the metaverse.
