Pavel Durov, the product manager and founder of Telegram, explains that Telegram will be adding more blockchain features to the platform. He revealed this through his Telegram channel on Monday.
The CEO referenced this move to the recent auctioning event that occurred on The Open Network (TON). About $3.2 million was made by Telegram after auctioning 2000 .ton domains. Wallet.ton, and Casino.ton went for $260,000 and $244,000 respectively.
For Pavel, this auction is a good sign that more can be done for Telegram’s over 700 million users. Usernames, groups, and channel links like @storm, @royal, @bank, @club, @game, and @gift can be auctioned, he asserted.

Telegram and TON
Although The Open Network (TON) is the preferred blockchain for Web3 exploration by Telegram as it started its development, a change of control of TON was made earlier this year.
An allegation of $1.7 billion linked with GRAM tokens was laid against Telegram by the SEC last year. This led to the company handing over the development of the blockchain project to private developers. Despite this, Telegram will still run on TON “because of its scalability and speed” said Pavel.
Telegram’s over half a billion users will be expecting changes on the platform where channels, emojis, and even stickers will be tradable in the ecosystem.
Other premium services offered by Telegram currently include a larger file upload size of 4gig, more channels for an account, new stickers, faster downloads and more all for $5 a month.
