Opera Announces Support for Solana

Opera has announced support for Solana through a partnership with the fastest blockchain networks, in the coming weeks.

The Norwegian company that created one of the fastest and most popular browsers, Opera Browser with support for web3 and build-in crypto wallet, revealed on Friday that it will be adding support for Solana dApps early next year.

Opera has been providing web3 support and a built-in crypto wallet in its browsers both on mobile and desktop since 2018.

According to the company, its vision has been to remove the hurdles associated with using web3 and crypto in order to make it more appealing and usage by a wider audience. It said the first hurdle was removed by making access to web3 a seamless experience, available directly in the browser.

As the interest in web3 and DeFi grows, Opera is taking the next steps to integrate faster blockchains with lower transaction costs amid a growing community of developers and users.”- Opera

Through the integration with Solana, Opera and Solana will bring to millions of people across the globe direct access to web3 and DeFi. Solana will be integrated first into the Opera for Android mobile application.

Speaking on the partnership, Susie Batt, Crypto Ecosystem Lead at Opera said;

“Solana has the goal of onboarding one billion people to crypto. That’s a goal we share. No other browser company has been at the forefront of web3 as early on as Opera. We are thrilled to be collaborating moving forward,”

“The path to 1 billion users can’t be built by just two or three platforms.” Said Austin Federa, “This integration will give tens of millions of new users even more choices of how to connect to Solana, and work to keep the dream of the open web alive and well. The mobile web3 revolution has barely just begun, and Opera is helping lead the way. ”

The Race of the Browsers

Some weeks ago, privacy-centric web browser Brave revealed weeks ago that it will be adding support for Solana. The integration of Solana into Opera will position Opera to become the first of the two web browsing giants to integrate the network.
Brave CEO and co-founder Brandan Eich said;

“with more and more users and creators requiring tools for fast and affordable access to the decentralized Web, this integration will seamlessly pave the way for the next billion crypto users to harness applications and tokens.”

Solana Lab’s CEO, Anatoly Yakovenko also spoke, he said mobile is the gateway for billions of people to Web3. And that;

“deep integration with browsers is key to helping DApps build the best web experiences. Braves’ announcement of Solana wallet support across all versions of their browsers is an important step to onboard the next billion users to Solana”.

The Opera Browser for Android currently supports Web3 with Ethereum, Bitcoin, TRON, and Celo. And in Q1, 2022, it will add support Solana.
