The Waves blockchain has launched Stagenet an experimental network that allow developers to test the functionality of new versions of Waves before deployment on testnet and mainnet.
According to Waves, “Stagenet is a fully functioning Waves blockchain but, like on testnet, on stagenet the WAVES token has no value because it can be received for free”.
Before the unveiling of Stagenet, all new Waves functionalities was published on testnet before it was available on mainnet. But according to Waves, when developing Waves-based project on testnet, due to the rollback of blockchain height caused by instability of testnet version of Waves blockchain, users could face problems.
Citing the reason for the development of Stagenet, Waves said “To eliminate possible blockchain rollback issues on our testnet, we’ve created the Waves stagenet as a testing ground for innovation.” As the StageNet is launched, all new experimental functionality will be now published on stagenet.
Waves gave instructions on how to use Stagenet. For users to utilize nodes on the network, they would need to download the latest version of the Waves node software. After this, they will need to get the wave-StageNet.conf.
For users who have the DEB package for node installation are advised to skip this file. Once the files have been downloaded, then the node can be installed using a provided manual then it will start downloading blocks.
To be a miner on the Stagenet, a request will have to be sent to receive Waves tokens which will be used on the Stagenet. Users can get Waves tokens for stagenet accounts through a custom faucet
Waves revealed the Waves testnet and mainnet will have the same versions and will be updated simultaneously. Users will be able to use testnet without fear of a blockchain rollback. Waves have added stagenet to the Waves Explorer, Waves IDE and Waves Keeper.
Waves describes itself as the fastest blockchain platform with real-world solutions for end users, businesses and developers, whether they need to store or exchange tokens, trade swiftly and securely using the Waves DEX or run business logic.
