on

Henri Stern, co-founder of Privy, introduced an easier solution for user onboarding in the Web3 world. With the hundreds and thousands of applications and products created in the Web3 space, on-boarding users which includes creating an easy to use platform and user management remains a goal to attain.

Speaking at EthGlobal event, the co-founder of Privy demonstrated how the protocol works for developers who create the platforms that users will engage with.

Privy is a web3 authentication tool that allows developers to onboard users to web3 products faster and more efficiently.

It provides a simple library that adds beautiful authentication flows and powerful embedded wallets to apps, allowing developers to increase conversion and the number of potential users for their app.

Privy progressively onboards every potential user with just one library, and provisions self-custodied wallets for users who sign in with email or social.

It simplifies the process of managing users, regardless of how they enter a digital ecosystem. Privy aims to help build better products by providing a unified user management system.

Customized user experience

The core concept of Privy is its ability to create custom user flows, tailored to the desired user journey. Henri, in a live demo, showed how a user could sign in using MetaMask, which then seamlessly integrates with Ethereum.

This system simplifies transaction processing within the Web3 environment, streamlining the user experience.

However, Privy doesn’t stop at MetaMask. Users can connect multiple wallets, making it incredibly versatile. This approach allows for easy transactions across various platforms, such as MetaMask and Phantom.

The co-founder also illustrated how Privy allows users to enrich their accounts over time by connecting email, phone numbers, and other social accounts. Users can easily verify their ownership of these identifiers through one-time passwords.

In the demonstration, the speaker connected his phone number to his existing account, which already had two wallets associated with it. Privy handles this seamlessly, providing a modular user account system that evolves as the user’s engagement deepens.

What’s remarkable is that Privy ensures this experience is consistent across different devices, be it mobile or desktop, and various environments.

Users can sign in with their Google account, MetaMask, Phantom, or any other identifiers, and Privy smoothly manages the connections.

For developers

He added that behind the scenes, Privy gives developers a comprehensive user account system, enabling them to monitor and manage user identifiers across their entire user base while maintaining the utmost security.

Importantly, Privy’s model doesn’t interfere with the custody model of users’ MetaMask or Phantom wallets.

Furthermore, Privy allows users to create wallets behind the scenes, making it even simpler for individuals who don’t already possess wallets.

This feature is especially valuable in simplifying the onboarding process for Web3 newcomers. Users can create wallets on the fly and sign messages with them, providing a straightforward way to join the Web3 world.

Privy promises a new era of simplicity for developers and a smoother onboarding process for users entering the exciting world of Web3.
