Sony partners with Startale Labs to build blockchain project

Sony Network Communications and Startale Labs have announced a groundbreaking joint venture to create a blockchain for the global Web3 ecosystem. 

Leveraging their collective expertise, skills, and extensive network of partners, this partnership is poised to usher in a new era of blockchain technology and Web3 adoption.

Sony Corporation is a multinational conglomerate based in Japan. Founded in 1946, Sony is renowned for its diverse range of products and services, including electronics, gaming, entertainment, and financial services. 

Some of its well-known divisions include Sony Electronics, Sony Interactive Entertainment (responsible for PlayStation), Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and Sony Financial Holdings.

Startale Labs is a technology company headquartered in Singapore with a primary focus on Web3 infrastructure. It aims to build innovative products and solutions that facilitate the widespread adoption of Web3 technologies. 

This can include blockchain-based applications, decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions, and other platforms and tools that harness the potential of Web3 for businesses and individuals.

According to Sony, the partnership, which will result in the creation of “Sony Network Communications Labs Pte. Ltd.,” is scheduled to launch in September. And with Sony’s involvement in various business sectors, it promises to bring unique products and services to the world of Web3.

In the last couple of years, Sony has shown huge interest in the Web3 space. It applied for a blockchain-patented storage right in 2018. Four years later, it went for a trademark for music NFTs. 

Throughout 2023, it has joined forces with Astar Network to introduce a Web3 incubation program to support and nurture various projects; and filed a patent with the goal of enabling the transfer of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) across various games and consoles, including its flagship PlayStation.

Jun Watanabe, President of Sony Network Communications, conveyed excitement about the partnership with Startale Labs, acknowledging Startale’s expertise in Web3 technology. 

He mentioned their joint vision of leveraging Sony Network Communications’ experience in communication, IoT, AI, and solution services, along with Startale Labs’ Web3 insights and technical capabilities.

Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Labs, expressed excitement about their partnership with Sony Network Communications, emphasizing their shared goal of developing an advanced blockchain and ecosystem. 

He noted their commitment to identifying and promoting Web3 trends worldwide, underscoring the synergy between their assets and knowledge in this endeavor.
