Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has partnered with Polygon Labs to introduce its inaugural NFT project: virtual G-SHOCK watches on the Polygon blockchain.

This initiative involves releasing 15,000 limited-edition G-SHOCK Creator Pass NFTs, which will be exclusively minted on the Polygon blockchain. The release is scheduled to begin on September 23, 2023.

Casio Computer Co., Ltd. is a Japanese electronics company known for its wide range of products, including calculators, digital watches, musical instruments, cameras, and more.

Polygon serves as a blockchain scaling solution and framework for building Ethereum-compatible blockchains.

Its goal is to enhance the scalability and usability of the Ethereum network by offering faster and more cost-effective transactions.

Polygon achieves this by enabling the creation of sidechains and layer 2 solutions that can process transactions independently while still being secured by the Ethereum mainnet.

The G-SHOCK brand, created by Casio in 1983, is famous for its shock-resistant watches. The brand boasts a history of innovation, unique designs, collaborations, and worldwide acclaim. G-SHOCK watches are known for their durability and have made a cultural impact.

Going beyond the history of the brand, the G-SHOCK brand will extend its presence into the metaverse with the NFT project.

According to Casio, the virtual G-SHOCK community will start on Discord, and pass holders will have exclusive access to co-creative projects.

Casio noted that it wants to use cutting-edge digital technologies like NFTs and the metaverse to expand its user base and create collaborative opportunities within its virtual community.

The company sees this project as just the beginning of a new era in virtual experiences for G-SHOCK users.

It added that the decision to use Polygon as the preferred platform is due to its ability to provide fast, seamless, and eco-friendly transactions for minting and managing NFTs.

Takahashi Oh, Casio’s Senior General Manager of Timepieces, noted the importance of accessibility, innovation, and inclusivity in their virtual G-SHOCK project, making Polygon the natural and logical choice for their needs.

Top legacy brands across the industry have also taken steps to enter the virtual world using NFTs. This includes Nike, Coca-Cola, Gucci, Adidas, Lamborghini, Nissan and more.
