Pro-Bitcoin Argentine presidential candidate Javier Milei wins election

In the open primary elections for the country’s presidency, Argentine politician Javier Milei, a proponent of Bitcoin and the abolition of the central bank, has surged into the spotlight.

With over 90% of the votes tallied, pro-Bitcoin candidate Javier Milei is securing nearly 32%, placing him in the lead. The conservative Together for Change party is trailing behind, capturing just under 30% according to Bloomberg data.

At the same time, the left-wing Union for the Homeland coalition is claiming the third position with slightly over 28.5% of the vote. Milei, the driving force behind the Liberty Advances coalition, founded and leads the coalition, which holds views ranging from libertarian to far-right.

Javier Milei, a self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist, passionately advocates for eliminating Argentina’s central bank, denouncing it as a scam.

He publicly endorses the notion of human organ sales as “another market.” From his viewpoint, Bitcoin counters “central bank scammers,” and he argues that fiat currency enables politicians to mislead the Argentine population through inflation.

Against the backdrop of an annual inflation rate of 116%, Argentine voters have notably embraced Milei’s rhetoric, exacerbating the country’s cost of living.

Argentina’s general presidential election is scheduled for October 22, with a run-off election planned for November in case no candidate attains a minimum of 45% of the votes.
