Starbucks has announced that Odessey, its first Web3 community-based project, will launch on December 8, 2022. The information was sent out via email to a handful of community members who applied for it earlier this year.
According to the email, the Web3 loyalty program, which was first announced in September 2022, will give a limited number of waitlist members an opportunity to “participate in entertaining, interactive activities to earn collectible Journey Stamps and Odyssey points.”
These stamps and points will grant owners access to unique experiences that the Starbucks team has designed. Furthermore, the Starbucks team explained that recipients of the mail have three days to register for the Starbucks Odyssey Beta.
And for those who didn’t get the mail or who will not get a final invitation on December 8, 2022, there are plans to invite more members to be part of the experience. Also, this experience will be limited to those in the US.
Web2 companies in Web3
The popularity of Web3 and the utilities such as NFTs is gaining the attention of Web2 beverage companies. Coca-Cola launched its first NFT project in 2021 in honor of International Friendship Day, celebrated the anniversary in 2022, released 136 NFTs for the LGBTQIA+ community in June 2022, and collaborated with crypto.com to release a FIFA-related NFT project for Qatar 2022.
Pepsi is another beverage company that started its Web3 journey when it launched the “Pepsi Mic Drop” Collection in December 2021. Then in November 2022, the Pepsi team released its first-ever non-fungible tokens (NFTs) collection for the Indian community. It was done in partnership with Timea Balo, an illustrator, and on the Polygon network like Coca-Cola and Starbucks.
Budweiser, Bacardĺ, Fountain Hard Seltzer, and Robert Mondavi Winery, in partnership with Bernardaud, have all created NFTs as a connection with the Web3 community.
