World Mobile – Connecting the Unconnected with Blockchain

Studies have shown that there are over 3.5 billion people that are unconnected. This represents almost half of the entire world population. No matter how much we try to ignore it, the truth remains that digital exclusion is a significant problem in our world today. The UN has declared ‘online freedom’ a human right, and yet one in two people can’t talk to each other.

The technology ecosystem, as it evolves, is in dire need of innovators who will make a change and build scalable products that can thrive in the face of an ever-changing world. Numerous startups and projects have continued to push the digital revolution forward by solving consumer-related problems through tech. One of such projects is World Mobile

World Mobile is a global mobile network built on the blockchain technology and the sharing economy. Together with IOHK (Cardano), World Mobile will deliver a revolutionary scalable network in Africa and beyond.

Unlike traditional telecoms, World Mobile is run by the people for the people, this simply means anyone can become a network operator and share the rewards. Beyond this, World Mobile will provide Internet access, data protection, and economic freedom.

World Mobile believes in digital inclusion, self-data governance, environmental sustainability, decentralized identity, and financial empowerment for all.

To foster their mantra of “connecting the unconnected”, World Mobile has a native token built on the Cardano smart contracts, World Mobile Token (WMT).  According to Coinmarketcap, the token price (as of the time this article was posted) is $0.893863 USD with a 24-hour trading volume of $2,472,715 USD. The Token is up 4.16% in the last 24 hours, with a maximum supply of 2 billion coins.

Charles Barnett and Emmanuel Gratch, Co-founding members of World Mobile, joins us on the Inside Blockchain show this morning to discuss some of the key problems they are solving at World Mobile.

Emmanuel disclosed that;

“World Mobile is here to provide connectivity to the unconnected…There are thousands of Mobile Network Providers that haven’t really connected those areas that are left offline. Some of the ways we are connecting the unconnected is by building a dynamic network, putting assets on the ground as well as assets in the air such as Aerostats

Charles added;

“Just like our brand name World Mobile, our plan is to reach the world…Renewable Energy is actually at our core. We understand that in order to operate all our telecom systems efficiently, we are going to need power. We are very focused on a sustainable model which will power our systems through solar energy…We started with Africa because we see the vast opportunities. We see how big the African continent is, yet so many people are offline or unconnected…Nigeria is definitely on our road map, that’s why we are here”
