Luxury UK-based phone brand, Vertu, unveils its AI-blockchain smartphone, METAVERTU 2, at the Token2049 event.
The device comes with a personalized operating system that is built on the blockchain, providing a decentralized infrastructure for security.
Vertu is a British-based manufacturer and retailer of luxury handmade mobile phones that was established in 1998 and formerly owned by Nokia.
The company is known for its high-end, handmade mobile phones that are made of precious materials such as leather and feature an encryption chip.
The company’s phones were sold through an emphasis on craftsmanship, style, and service, rather than mobile phone functions.
Vertu was sold to a private equity group in 2012 and has since bounced between owners from Turkey and China.
METAVERTU 2, which will be in the market come October, is one of the world’s first Web3 phones, built exclusively for the Web3 and blockchain ecosystem.
The smartphone operates its own blockchain node and enables users to effortlessly establish a wallet with just a few clicks, all safeguarded by its integrated security system.
Web2 to Web3 switch
It can switch between Web2 mode and Web3 mode, and users can access a suite of decentralized applications (dapps) through a friendly, Android-style interface.
The phone can turn photos and videos into NFTs with one touch. Although the first version was launched in November 2023, the METAVERTU 2 comes with more superior features.
Added to the stated features, it comes with bank-level encryption for signing, decryption, and hardware-based random number generation.
Additionally, it incorporates Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZK) capabilities, reinforcing its security credentials.
METAVERTU 2 introduces the I-DID Protocol, binding a user’s mobile IMEI number to their identity. This eliminates the need for repetitive registrations when accessing Web3 dApps.
The MPC Wallet simplifies private key management, eliminating the need for users to memorize mnemonic phrases.
Open source infrastructure for developers
METAVERTU 2 is designed to permit developers to build and explore through open protocols, leveraging the embedded Hardware ZK and Trusted Oracle Protocol (TOP).
This ensures data flow authenticity through various components and provides APIs for Layer 1 (L1) and Layer 2 (L2) protocols.
With the AI integration that brings decentralized AI agents for its users, METAVERTU 2 is set to alter how smartphones operate.
