Polkadot: PolkaWorld operations halted after failed funding bid

Published

on

Markian Ivanichok, Brushfam founder, expressed his frustration with the governance process in the Polkadot ecosystem claiming that the system “doesn’t care about users”.

Polkadot community group known as PolkaWorld has announced that it has halted its operations after the community’s proposal to get funding from Polkadot’s treasury was rejected. Several concerns and claims about the project’s treasury management were raised by the organization in a recent announcement

In a post shared on PolkaWorld’s official social media account, the organization expressed concerns about the treasury management within Polkadot’s new open governance platform called OpenGov, stating that it is adversely impacting long-standing contributors to the Polkadot ecosystem. According to PolkaWorld, many organizations are leaving the Polkadot ecosystem due to rejections by the project’s treasury.

The organization pointed out that in the previous governance system, there was a council elected by Polkadot (DOT) holders. The council members were professionals in certain areas and were knowledgeable in evaluating proposals, according to PolkaWorld, and they believe that the organization should integrate this into the current OpenGov system, where governance is decided by tokenholders directly.

Meanwhile, in a social media thread (referred to as an X thread), Markian Ivanichok, the founder of the platform Brushfam, which onboards businesses to Polkadot, has announced that the project is leaving Polkadot. The founder expressed frustrations about Polkadot’s governance system, saying that it’s been “increasingly hard to get financing.”

Within the thread, Ivanichok also emphasized the challenges of receiving recognition for their work within an ecosystem that, in their words, “doesn’t prioritize users, business practices, or effective product marketing.”

The OpenGov system from Polkadot was introduced earlier this year to grant every tokenholder a say in how the platform is developed. As a result, holders of the DOT token directly manage governance in the network. They can actively participate in a voting process aimed at changing their ecosystem.
