LayerZero partners with Google Cloud to bolster security

Published

on

LayerZero has announced a partnership with Google Cloud that will introduce the Google Cloud Oracle, a purpose-built verifier set to revolutionize the security of LayerZero applications.

The vision of the partnership, which started over a year ago, aims to redefine the standards of security in the cryptocurrency industry.

LayerZero is an interoperability protocol that allows different blockchain networks to connect without requiring a third party.

It uses a novel technique to transfer messages between on-chain endpoints and comes with a lightweight on-chain client called the LayerZero Endpoint.

LayerZero is modular and extensible, allowing for the addition of new chains and functionalities without requiring modifications to the core protocol.

Google Cloud is a comprehensive cloud computing platform offered by Google. It provides a wide range of cloud services, including computing, storage, databases, machine learning, and analytics, allowing businesses and developers to build, deploy, and scale applications and services in the cloud.

It also offers high-performance infrastructure, data analytics tools, and artificial intelligence capabilities to support various industries and applications.

According to LayerZero, from September 19, 2023, the Google Cloud Oracle will become the default verifier for all LayerZero applications. This transition marks a significant milestone in ensuring the utmost security and trustworthiness within the LayerZero ecosystem.

This means that every message within LayerZero will now benefit from the robust security infrastructure maintained by Google Cloud. Google Cloud’s Oracle will verify the validity of each message by default, offering a comprehensive layer of assurance to users.

Google Cloud and Web3

Over time, the blockchain space has become a collaborative ground for Google Cloud, where its services are needed to support infrastructures that are being built while gaining insight into how the ecosystem functions.

It has partnered with other Web3 firms such as Solana, Alchemy, Nansen, Aptos, Base, Celo, Flow, Hedera, Nansen, Near, Polygon, and others. This shows the interconnectedness between the Web2 and Web3 spaces.

LayerZero added that users eager to harness the benefits of the Google Cloud Oracle immediately should update the oracle address, in their UA configuration, to the Google Cloud Oracle.

Expansion in 2023

Since the beginning of the year, LayerZero has also tried to expand its services. In the first week of September, it announced its integration with the Zora Network mainnet to further innovate the NFT ecosystem.

With over 4 million NFTs being issued on the Zora Network, the partnership is aimed at creating new opportunities for NFT collectors, creators, and applications.

LayerZero also made a successful move in Q2 of 2023, raising $120 million at a valuation of $3 billion. Some of the participants in the round were Andreessen Horowitz, the auction house Christie’s, Sequoia Capital, and Samsung Next.
