Base, a Coinbase Global newly launched layer 2 network invites web3 developers to join the project. The newly launched product is an open-source Ethereum L2 with a vision for decentralization and scale, according to Base. Base is, according to Coinbase, built for the world’s builders and designed to be an open ecosystem where anyone, anywhere can build.
With exchanges launching their own chains like Binance, Kucoin, OKx, and Coinbase has joined the growing list with Base but why should builders build on Base when there are tons of options out there? The reasons, according to Base, cover the security of the network, its decentralized capabilities and its creators. Here are four (4) reasons why developers should build on Base.
Base is secured by Ethereum
Base is built using the underlying security of Ethereum together with Coinbase’s existing mode of operation. Also, developers can “onramp into Base from Coinbase, Ethereum L1, and other interoperable chains”.
Base is empowered by Coinbase
Base is a Coinbase project therefore developers on Base can benefit from Coinbase product integrations, faster fiat onramps, and acquisition tools. Base will serve as an on-chain home for Coinbase products.
Base is Open source with OptimismFND
Optimistic as a web3 tool has been gaining attention in the market as one of the tools for enhancing the Ethereum setbacks. Base is built on the OP Stack in partnership with OptimismFND to offer a decentralized, permissionless, and open-source network. Moreso, the project founders believe the foundational software for the global crypto economy should be available and open-sourced. Base is joining OptimismFND as the second Core Dev working on the OP Stack, and aims to achieve a network that the public can contribute to, fork, and extend.
Base has “Big features, small fees”
Base is fully EVM compatible and “works at a fraction of the cost” which adds to its Big features and low gas, according to Base. Developers building on Base can set up gasless transactions for their dapps with developer APIs for account abstraction, and build multi-chain applications with “easy-to-use” bridges. At launch, Base has up to 25+ dApps communities and contributors to the project and however is making a call for web3 developers to join in.
