Soneium has announced a partnership with Line, a popular messaging and tech company. The two companies are working together to bring four of Line’s most successful mini-apps onto the blockchain in the coming months.
This collaboration is set to make it easier for more Web2 users to explore Web3. The four mini-apps chosen for the first stage of this project are Sleepagotchi LITE, Farm Frens, Moonveil’s Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob.
These apps have already gained a huge following on Line, a platform known for its messaging services and mini-app ecosystem, which lets users access games, tools, and services without leaving the app.
Soneium is a blockchain network designed to be fast, user-friendly, and affordable. Sony Block Solutions Labs, the team behind Soneium, is part of Sony, a global leader in electronics, entertainment, and innovation. Soneium’s mainnet went live in January with two projects.
Line, on the other hand, is a tech giant in Asia, with over 200 million monthly active users worldwide. Its mini-app platform has become a go-to place for fun and useful services, and this partnership will use Line’s massive reach to introduce blockchain technology to more users.
The collaboration also highlights the growing interest in Web3 across industries. Sony, through its Sony Block Solutions Labs, is exploring how blockchain can enhance gaming, entertainment, and more, while Line has been experimenting with blockchain and digital assets for years, including its own cryptocurrency projects.
For Line’s 200 million monthly active users, this partnership could be their first introduction to blockchain technology. Soneium and Line have promised to keep the mini-apps fun, easy to use, and secure, so users can enjoy the benefits of Web3 without any hassle.
Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, stated that Line’s mini-app ecosystem will enhance Soneium’s reach. He explained that integrating successful mini-apps will make Soneium more accessible to users and developers. He believes this collaboration will drive engagement and Web3 adoption in ways that would have been difficult without Line’s involvement.
Soneium’s collaboration marks a major step in Web3 adoption but puts it in direct competition with The Open Network (TON), which secured an exclusive deal as Telegram’s blockchain for mini-apps. This development, announced in January 2025, positions TON as the sole blockchain infrastructure for Telegram’s Mini Apps, effectively phasing out support for other blockchains.
The Open Network (TON), originally developed by Telegram but later handed over to an independent community following regulatory challenges, is a layer-1 blockchain designed for scalability and efficiency, with Toncoin (TON) as its native cryptocurrency.
Previously, Telegram’s Mini Apps infrastructure was open to all blockchains, allowing developers to integrate networks like Solana, Sui, and Aptos. However, the new policy mandates that all Mini Apps with blockchain functionality must operate exclusively on TON, using the TON Connect protocol for wallet integrations.
As Soneium embraces miniapps without restrictions via Line, developers have access to a new opportunity to create and enhance user-friendly Web3 applications.
