OpenAI is introducing data partnerships, a collaborative initiative with organizations to create both public and private datasets for training AI models. OpenAI stated that the goal is to build more comprehensive AI models capable of understanding various subject matters, industries, cultures, and languages.
OpenAI is an artificial intelligence research laboratory consisting of the for-profit corporation OpenAI LP and its parent company, the non-profit OpenAI Inc. The company’s mission is to create safe artificial general intelligence (AGI) that benefits all of humanity as a whole.
It researches generative models and how to align them with human values. The company also offers an API platform that provides access to its latest models and guides for safety best practices.
The company is further noted that it is inviting organizations to provide extensive datasets representing various aspects of human society, encompassing text, images, audio, or video.
The collaboration involves partnerships with entities such as the Icelandic Government and the Free Law Project, demonstrating the value of diverse data sources. The initiative offers two collaboration avenues: Open-Source Archive, intended for public datasets, and Private Datasets, tailored for proprietary AI model training with a priority on data privacy.
OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta and Amazon
Since the launch of ChatGPT, OpenAI has taken strides to improve its services for users and address issues related to AI development.
Towards the end of October, it unveiled a Preparedness Team to address Frontier Risk in the industry. It also made some improvements on GPT4 that add new capabilities for developers.
Beyond OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon are also making investments in the industry. Microsoft and Meta collaborated in July to back the Llama 2 family of large language models (LLMs) on Azure and Windows.
Amazon collaborated with Immutable, a blockchain gaming company, to offer more options for game developers as AWS expands its accelerator programs to support additional startups.
