Entertainment giant, Disney is partnering with Dapper Labs to create an NFT platform, Disney Pinnacle. This digital platform aims to transform characters from a century of Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars into tradable digital pins known as NFTs, preserving and sharing these iconic elements in the digital realm.
Dapper Labs is a blockchain-based gaming and entertainment company that was established in 2018. The company is focused on creating blockchain-based experiences that are made for users and ready for the real world.
Dapper Labs is best known for creating CryptoKitties, a blockchain-based game that allows users to collect, breed, and trade digital cats using Ethereum.
The company has since expanded its offerings to include other blockchain-based games and digital collectibles, such as NBA Top Shot, a platform for buying, selling, and trading officially licensed NBA collectibles as NFTs.
Disney Pinnacle is designed not just as a platform, but as a crafted, socially driven experience. The primary goal is to offer fans an immersive, secure, and globally accessible environment tailored for the collection and trading of digital pins.
The project is scheduled to launch later this year on the Apple App Store for iOS, the Google Play Store, and its official website. A waitlist has been created for eager fans who wish to join this exciting new experience in the world of digital collectibles.
Roham Gharegozlou, co-founder and CEO of Dapper Labs, believes this project is a testament to Dapper Labs’ experience. “Disney Pinnacle is an all-new product designed from the ground up to incorporate everything we’ve learned over the past few years,” he said.
While Disney Pinnacle is planned to bring in a new experience for Disney fans, Disney has previously explored Web3 and the metaverse, as evident from its participation in the 2022 Disney Accelerator program.
The project was designed to shape the future of immersive experiences, specializing in technologies like augmented reality (AR), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and artificial intelligence (AI) characters.
The 2022 Disney Accelerator program included companies focused on Web3 technologies, such as Flickplay, a Web3 social app that enables users to discover NFTs tied to real-world locations that they can experience and share via AR, and Lockerverse.
It’s a Web3 platform that empowers creators and brands to tell culture-defining stories and deliver unique access and experiences.
Additionally, Disney collaborated with its Accelerator participant Obsess, an e-commerce platform known for creating interactive virtual storefronts, to release a new Web3 experience for its Disney Music Emporium, providing fans with access to a virtual storefront with individual displays that highlight various soundtracks from Disney movies and shows.
