The Sandbox and the Brazilian game studio Hermit Crab have just established a partnership for the ongoing festival in Brazil. The game studio is creating a virtual city inspired by Brazilian culture that will offer different sports experiences. Players will be able to interact in a multiplayer social setting and explore a large city with a variety of sports environments in ‘Sports Land’, having fun and competing.
To commemorate this ongoing Carnival in Brazil, Hermit Crab is reopening its popular “Sports Land” experience from Alpha Season 3 and introducing a brand-new one called “Sports Land Stadium,” which combines the finest of sports and Brazilian Carnival culture.
Players can travel throughout the Land, complete missions, and interact with characters to learn more about the relationship and significance of sports in people’s lives. Also, they will discover more about the history, peculiarities, characteristics, and experiences of the various people who participate in and work at the Carnival. The event will combine all of the elements that make the Brazilian Carnival culture.
The traditional Carnival of Rio de Janeiro will be the artistic and narrative emphasis of the experiences as a tribute to the Sambadrome of Marques de Sapuca, but it will also be possible to learn more about the other Carnival celebrations that are held in various parts of Brazil.
The Carnival which started on 16th of February and will run till the 25th of February. It offers two experiences that are open to everyone (one single-player, one multiplayer). To earn rewards, players need to complete all quests in both experiences. Once this is done, they are required to take a screenshot with their best Avatar at the photo booth and post it on Twitter. One of the rewards is a rare NFT featuring King Momo.
In many Latin American celebrations, mostly in Brazil and Colombia, King Momo is regarded as the king of Carnivals. The start of the Carnival celebrations is signaled by his appearance. King Momo, who frequently receives the city’s key, is unique to each carnival. Because the first King Momo was of that physical stature, the role is customarily filled by a tall, obese man.

The Brazil Carnival and the Metaverse
The ongoing carnival in Brazil has drawn some level of interest from the Metaverse. The partnership between Sandbox and Hermit Crab is not the first collaboration festival. Another metaverse giant Decentraland has also partnered with Upland, a web3 gaming platform towards the Brazilian Cultural Festival. This further illustrates the practicality in everyday life.
