The web3 firm behind Bored Ape Yacht Club, Yuga Labs appoints Daniel Alegre, CEO of Yuga Labs. Daniel was the former President and COO of Activision Blizzard and now will take the CEO seat at Yuga Labs from Q1 2023.
Daniel’s appointment will be as a replacement for Nicole Muniz who joined the firm in 2021. However, Muniz will continue to be part of the firm as an adviser and partner.
His position at Activision Blizzard began in April 2020 and has spanned the music and media industry as well as different divisions at Google. Activision Blizzard is a gaming company and has Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and other notable games to its credit.
He announced his departure from Activision Blizzard a few days before Yuga Lab’s press release. Daniel mentioned to a media outlet that throughout his career, he has aimed to build innovative platforms for long-term value. Furthermore, he said web3 offers opportunities to reinvent content owner, engagement, and how it’s monetized.
Yuga Labs said that Daniel Alegre will contribute in line with his expertise to Yuga Labs in areas the platform considers critical and towards an immersive web3 space.
Daniel Alegre’s gaming experience is expected to enhance Yuga’s building efforts and specifically towards its gamified metaverse world, The Otherside.
Following his new identity in web3, Alegre used the Mutant Ape #3850 as his new profile picture. Expressing his excitement, he said Yuga is one of the pioneers of ownership and digital identity innovation and he is pleased “to lead the team to the next phase of growth.”
