More Oppourtunities for Africa with VivaTech and AfricArena Partnership

Another blockchain partnership has been born as French tech conference VivaTech partners with AfricArena. The partnership which was announced at the Paris based conference will create a boost for African start-ups and innovators. Maxime Baffert, co-managing director of Viva Technology explained the essence of the partnership which would see a collaboration between the two tech conferences to develop and promote Africa’s tech excellence. The partnership with AfricArena, a tech ecosystem aggregator for Africa will build a bridge between European investors and African entrepreneurs.
Maxime Baffert says, “The collaboration will lead to an increased in the connection between a new generation of entrepreneurs in their race to launch new products and services to improve the lives of African communities and commerce while conquering global markets. “As part of our Afric@Tech focus this year, we are thrilled to lay the foundations of a long-term and ambitious collaboration. This partnership is aiming at paying tribute to the vibrant energy of Africa’s promising entrepreneurial ecosystem.”
As new partners, Viva Tech and AfricaArena plan a joint challenge for African start-ups to find solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing Africa. The challenge will begin next month and the three top finalists will pitch their innovations at AfricArena in Cape Town on November 15 to 16. Christophe Viarnaud Founder of AfricArena explains: “The prize is sponsored by French president Emmanuel Macron’s Presidential Council for Africa, and consists of providing the winning start-up with support through a network to access capital or funding, and market access, particularly in France.”
Viva Tech is featuring a dedicated zone for African startups for the first time in its three-year history. The start-ups who have won various challenges include two South African start-ups. The Sun Exchange, a Startup that utilizes the blockchain and sells solar cells to users as well as helps buyers earn crypto-currency by leasing the equipment to schools and businesses, won the AFD Energy Blockchain challenge. While an artificial intelligence company, Vizibiliti Insight based in Johannesburg-based won EUR5 000 for coming first place in the Verizon challenge since the CEO Courtney Bentley pitched an alternative credit scoring solution.
