Remote has announced a payment solution that allows businesses to pay their contractors using stablecoins. Starting with USDC on Base, the Layer-2 blockchain developed by Coinbase, Remote’s new feature introduces a fast, secure, and compliant way for companies to compensate their global contract workforce.
Initially available for U.S.-based customers, this is a major step toward modernizing international payments while ensuring full compliance with local and global regulations.
As companies increasingly embrace global talent and flexible workforce models, contractor management has become one of Remote’s most rapidly expanding services. With this new stablecoin payout option, businesses can now pay contract workers in 69 countries directly and near-instantly.
Remote is a global HR and payroll company that helps businesses hire, manage, and pay employees or contractors across the world. It is designed for companies looking to build distributed teams without dealing with the complexities of international employment laws, tax compliance, and payroll processes.
Founded in 2019, Remote acts as an Employer of Record (EOR), hiring employees in countries where companies don’t have a legal entity. It handles international payroll, benefits, compliance with local laws, and supports both full-time employees and contractors.
Stripe, founded in 2010, offers online payment solutions, allowing businesses to accept payments securely via credit/debit cards and digital wallets. It provides tools for subscriptions, invoicing, billing, fraud prevention, and cross-border payments, enabling global business operations.
Stripe is popular among businesses, from startups to giants like Amazon, for its seamless payment processing and integration, making global scaling and financial management straightforward.
This new solution tackles challenges related to speed, reliability, and flexibility in international payments. It ensures that workers receive compensation according to their preferences while allowing businesses to streamline operations.
Remote’s automation tools for onboarding, invoicing, and contractor payments further enhance this capability, enabling businesses to manage all their global talent efficiently from a unified dashboard.
The stablecoin payment option offers contractors faster payouts and a viable alternative to local currencies, which may face volatility or other limitations. To receive payments in USDC, contractors simply need to update their preferred withdrawal method by adding their Base Network wallet address. Employers will continue to be billed in U.S. dollars, ensuring a seamless and compliant process for both parties.
Job van der Voort, CEO and co-founder of Remote, emphasized the significance of this development, particularly for businesses working with international talent.
He stated, “One of the biggest hurdles companies face when hiring international talent is providing fast, flexible, and reliable payments around the world. With the introduction of stablecoin payouts via Stripe, we’re adding a feature that has been highly requested by our customers, enabling them to pay contractors how they prefer, while maintaining the compliance and simplicity Remote is known for.”
This partnership reveals a broader trend where companies are increasingly leveraging blockchain technology to modernize payment systems and meet the needs of a rapidly changing global workforce.
Eight months ago, Stripe announced its comeback with a focus on launching a stablecoin-focused payment service. By mid-October, Paxos introduced the stablecoin payments platform, with Stripe as its inaugural customer.
