President Biden campaign seeks virality as job posting targeting memes expert indicate

The Biden for President (BFP) campaign recently listed a job opening for a “Partner Manager” who will oversee daily operations related to engaging top internet content creators and meme pages.

According to job listing website Indeed, the Biden for President (BFP) campaign will offer a competitive annual salary ranging from $65,000 to $85,000 for the Wilmington, Delaware-based meme manager position. This compensation slightly exceeds the average pay for digital marketers in the United States.

The job description for the Biden for President (BFP) campaign’s meme manager role highlights a central responsibility: overseeing collaborations with an array of digital media firms, podcast producers, and prominent meme pages across various social media networks.

President Biden’s campaign team has previously ventured into meme creation, notably capitalizing on the “Dark Brandon” laser eyes meme in early 2022 as a strategy to present the 81-year-old candidate as tech-savvy and in tune with internet culture.

In a February interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, President Biden playfully responded to a query about the Dark Brandon meme, saying, “I resent the hell out of it,” before putting on a pair of dark sunglasses.

During the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner in April, President Biden once again put on sunglasses and evoked the Dark Brandon persona, eliciting enthusiastic applause from the audience.

President Biden’s incorporation of the Dark Brandon meme into his public appearances and campaign materials marks the latest attempt by the oldest U.S. president to connect with younger voters.

In an apparent bid to attract voters, numerous Democrats have shifted their stance on cryptocurrency following 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump’s vocal support for it.

Former President Donald Trump has had his fair share of viral moments, particularly with memes. In August 2023, his mugshot went viral after processing at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia following his fourth indictment.

In other news, Five United States senators, namely Senator Ted Cruz, Senators Bill Hagerty, Rick Scott, Ted Budd, and Mike Braun, have collaborated to express their opposition to the Biden administration’s intentions to introduce a “digital dollar.”

Seizing the opportunity, Trump’s campaign team quickly capitalized on the viral mugshot by launching a line of merchandise featuring the image, including T-shirts, mugs, and other items. The campaign expanded its reach in December 2023 by releasing a “MugShot” nonfungible token (NFT) collection.

The Trump MAGA (TRUMP) memecoin saw a considerable increase in value in early May, following a string of pro-cryptocurrency statements made by former President Donald Trump.

Memes have evolved into powerful tools that shape social, cultural, and financial landscapes, notably through the rise of memecoins. Socially, memes foster community building and influence public opinion, spreading ideas rapidly across digital platforms. They serve as cultural commentary, critiquing norms and trends while facilitating cross-cultural exchanges.

Financially, memecoins like Dogecoin have demonstrated the significant impact of memes on markets. Initially created as a joke, memecoins gained traction through community-driven hype and viral trends. Social media buzz rather than traditional financial metrics often drives their market value, leading to high volatility and speculative trading.

Recognizing this influence, political parties and governments are incorporating memes into their strategies. Memes offer a relatable and engaging way to communicate policies, mobilize grassroots support, and connect with younger, tech-savvy voters.

Governments also see the need to regulate the memecoin market to protect investors and ensure market integrity. By leveraging the viral nature of memes, political entities aim to stay relevant, engage citizens, navigate the complexities of the digital age, and of course, win elections.
