Telegram introduces revenue sharing for channel owners and TON-based Ads

Published

on

Telegram has unveiled an incentive program for channel owners and is rolling out TON-based ads on its platform. Under this initiative, owners of public channels with at least 1,000 subscribers will soon have the opportunity to earn 50% of the ad revenue generated in their channels.

This means that channel owners can monetize their content by displaying ads to their subscribers and receiving a significant portion of the revenue generated from these advertisements.

To enable the revenue-sharing setup, Telegram is introducing an advertising format that users can buy using Toncoins, a digital currency running on the TON Blockchain.

This choice was made because the TON Blockchain offers low transaction fees, rapid transaction speeds, and an ability to handle a high volume of transactions per second. Per Telegram, the blockchain’s efficiency and capabilities make it ideal for powering the advertising system and facilitating seamless transactions within the Telegram platform.

It also noted that advertisers can now use a few Toncoins to promote their bots or channels in large public channels on its platform. It added that while the ads system is being implemented, it will not be shown in personal chats, and doesn’t use user data. For users who want to opt out of seeing ads, the instant messaging giant said that they can subscribe for the Premium version of the app.

This system is coming at a point where Telegram users generate over 1 trillion views in channels each month. Additionally, Telegram has become a significant platform for crypto users, offering various features and services related to cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.

This has given the platform an edge amongst other crypto-centric social media platforms such as X (formerly crypto), and Discord. With a user base of over 800 million, Telegram hosts numerous crypto-related groups and channels created by traders, investors, and crypto veterans to share experiences, knowledge, and insights with the crypto community.
