Near Foundation and Polygon Labs collaborate on Ethereum ZK rollups

Published

In a joint announcement, the NEAR Foundation and Polygon Labs revealed the successful integration of NEAR’s Data Availability layer (NEAR DA) with Polygon CDK, providing developers with a powerful tool for creating their own Zero-Knowledge (ZK) rollups tailored to their specific requirements.

Near Protocol is a layer 1 blockchain network that utilizes a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism and sharded architecture to enhance transaction throughput and scalability.

It is designed to enable the development of decentralized applications (dapps) and is considered a challenger to established layer 1 blockchains like Ethereum.

Near Protocol’s sharding solution, known as “Nightshade,” involves breaking up the blockchain into sub-chains with different validators working on them, which are regularly connected.

This approach aims to improve transaction speed and reduce costs, while also addressing the challenge of scalability as transaction volumes grow.

Polygon ZKM is a zero-knowledge proof (ZK proof) project developed by Polygon, a layer 2 scaling protocol for Ethereum.

ZK proofs are cryptographic techniques that allow users to verify their identity online without revealing sensitive information.

Polygon ZKM is designed to enhance transaction throughput, preserve user data, and enable trustless on-chain verifications.

NEAR DA is designed for efficiency and scalability, simplifying network management and reducing costs for Ethereum rollup builders.

It aligns with NEAR Protocol’s scaling capabilities, providing a robust and cost-effective data availability solution.

Polygon CDK acts as a straightforward Layer 2 (L2) stack, which gives Ethereum developers the flexibility to create custom L2 chains with personalized configurations.

The integration of NEAR DA with Polygon CDK allows rollups to benefit from lower data availability costs, significantly cutting overall rollup overheads.

NEAR DA not only offers cost-effective and fast data availability but also facilitates modular blockchain development.

Rollup builders on Polygon CDK can now use NEAR DA as a complete out-of-the-box modular solution, enhancing the overall development experience.

Illia Polosukhin, the Co-Founder of NEAR Protocol, expressed enthusiasm about making NEAR Data Availability (NEAR DA) available to developers using Polygon CDK for rollups. He highlighted the benefits of NEAR DA, with emphasis on its cost-effectiveness, rapid data availability, and scalability through NEAR’s sharding technology.
